Using DeviantArt pictures on my blog, embedding and copyright? Hi I want to use some pictures from DeviantArt on my tattoo blog. I notice some photos go under a creative commons licence which is fine. Nevertheless, other photos in which the owner is simply just copyrighted still allow you to embed photos using DeviantArt's embed code feature. I'm a little confused about this, does this mean I'm allowed to embed this photo on my blog without permission? If it's copyrighted why does the original owner allow embedding, does this mean they give their permission to use this photo on other websites by allowing embedding and if I use this photo on my blog by use of the embedding code, this is fine?

I believe that the embedding function is always on, so the artist has no control over it. If there is no creative commons license, you MUST have consent from the artist to use it. Even if it does, it’s recommended to ask them, or at the very least, give them credit where credit’s due. If the owner of the photograph wanted to embed it in THEIR blog, they would then have the option. Usually if you ask them nicely and give them credit they'll have no problem with it!

You should ask the artist or photographer before you use their art just to be safe, but I don't think most people would mind if you asked first.

A good name for a blog/photography website? I’m remaking my website with Word Press and giving it a brand-new, sophisticated look. Since I’m just a teenager, I want the name to be somewhat whimsical. Any ideas that don't sound horribly dorky or childish?

Why not just yourname.com? It's what I use for my photography web site. I’ve an actual name for my blog but I'd prefer to not share that on here. Think of things that work for you but try to not pigeon hole yourself too much. Something too photography oriented will mean you're stuck with a photo blog but something too generic doesn't help people identify you separate you from every other blogger. Branding is key so don't be too obscure but not too boxed in. Good luck!
